Fernando Velázquez is an spanish composer, orchestra director and cellist. He was born in 1976 in Vizcaya, Spain. He studied the composition career in Madrid and Paris, besides being a graduate in history. When he was a child he already knew that he wanted to be a composer, because he always picked his brother’s guitar when he was absent to write his music. Actually, he composed the music for a school play.
In 1999, he began his career as a soundtrack composer. as much for movies as for plays or short films. He’s very recognized for composing the soundtrack for J.A. Bayona’s most famous films: A monster calls, El orfanato or The impossible, among others. Furthermore, in 2017 he won the Goya for best original music with A monster call, and he was nominated with The impossible and El orfanato, too, but he didn’t won the award. More recently, he has composed music for Hercules, Mamá or Ocho apellidos vascos.
On his orchestra conductor side, Fernando Velázquez directed, among others, the London Metropolitan Orchestra and other spanish orchestras like Euskadi’s, Málaga’s, Bilbao’s or Seville’s.
